#23 Levites: Living by Fulfilled Promises

35

There are people in this world that are simply deceitful. Some people come to the same conclusion about God. They read the Bible, and assume God has promised them something and then when they don't get it, they think God is deceitful. A few weeks ago, I brought up the fact that many people have deconverted from Christianity because they thought God broke His promises to them. Of course, it is impossible to deconvert from true Christianity, because converting to Christianity isn't an act of the will of man, but an act of the will of God. If God makes you a new creation, well, we simply can't undo what God has done, nor would the person truly converted want to undo what God has done. So, people can't really deconvert. But, people do depart from their profession of faith. They depart from the visible body of Christ. I John 2:19 says "They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us." The people John is referring to were people who at one time looked like they belonged to Jesus. They looked like true Christians. Think of the case of Judas Iscariot. he traveled with Jesus for 3 years, participated in two short-term mission trips, healed the sick, cast out demons, everything that the other 11 disciples did. But what happened to him? He thought Jesus had promised a resurrection of an earthly Davidic kingdom and when it became obvious that Jesus would not deliver on that promise, Judas betrayed Jesus.
