Why the earrings

Have you ever thought about why Aaron requested the golden earrings that the people were wearing and not the gold that they had laying around? Honestly they had more than enough loose gold to go on to build the tabernacle yet he asked specifically for this gold. While it may not have been the gold in particular that he was after it most likely does have to do with the symbolism that those earrings stood for. Aaron had the best of intentions but that's not gonna get it done in the end.
