J.C. Ryle's Expository Thoughts on the Gospel of Matthew 4:1-11
Series Readings from J. C. Ryle
364
After the baptism of Jesus, we read of His temptation by the devil. J.C. Ryle contends that there are plain and practical lessons we can learn, and that we need to take heed of them.
J.C. Ryle's Expository Thoughts speaks of:
1: What a real and mighty enemy we have in the devil.
2: We must not count temptation a strange thing.
3: The chief weapon we ought to use in resisting Satan is the Bible!
4: What a sympathising Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ is.
Although there is much about the temptation we may not be able to fully explain, yet it will serve us well to pay close attention to the important lessons that Ryle puts before us.
