Be Faithful to Jesus!

Main Idea: Brothers and sisters, be faithful to the faithful Son!

• Consider Jesus (1)
 The Apostle (1a)
 Sent by the Father (Gospel of John)
 To bring many sons to glory (2:10)
 The High Priest of our confession (1a)
 A merciful and faithful High Priest (2:17)
 Of our confession (1b)

• Comparison of Jesus and Moses (2)
 Jesus was faithful to Him who appointed Him (2a)
 Made like His brothers in every way (2:14-17a)
 Became a merciful and faithful High Priest (2:17)
 Made propitiation for the sins of the people (2:17)

 As Moses was faithful in all God’s “house” (2b) (Nu 12:7)

• Contrast of Jesus and Moses (3)
 Jesus is worthy of more glory (3)
 Jesus counted worthy of more glory than Moses (3a)
(As the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself 3b)
 God the creator deserves glory and honor (4)
 Analogy between God and Christ (3, 4)
 Christ as builder is honored above Moses (3, 4)

 Servant vs. Son (5-6a)
 Moses faithful IN God’s “house” as servant (testifying future proclamation) (5)
 Christ faithful OVER God’s “house” as a Son (6a)

• Therefore: be faithful to the faithful Christ! (6b)
 Those who are “His house” hold fast their confidence

Be faithful to the faithful Son—
trusting Him alone for your salvation, and worshipping Him alone!
