Victory in God's kingdom

Apologies for the poor quality of this recording.

Why is this list of defeated kings recorded? They are names and places far removed from us? Note the repetition of the word "one. The Israelites were given a land that was ruled many different kings. They were defeated one by one and were put under God's reign. The victories were all God's victories. Revelation 11:15 shows the ushering in of the eternal estate where all the kingdoms of this world are become our Lord's kingdom. In the end Christ will rule over all. In Joshua 12, we see a glimpse of what happens in the eternal state when the meek inherit the earth. The inheritance now is ruled by the devil and his angels, but they will all be put down one by one. In this message, we look at victory in God's kingdom

  1. The victory in the purpose of God
We see a comprehensive victory. All the kings are defeated. There is land left to possess, but that does not change the fact they are defeated. Victory is announced publicly. Christ's victory is also public (Col 2:14-15). Christ is shown to be a victorious King in the book of Matthew.

  2. The veracity of the promises of God
Deut 31:3-4 shows God's promise to defeat the kings. Zion and Og were the firstfruits of victory. In Joshua 12, we see that once again God is faithful and able to keep his word. Christ has promised us a glorious resurrection and it will come to pass.

So this chapter gives us a glorious insight into our future. We will have our inheritance. How does that impact what I do today?

  1. It saves you from discouragement
  2. Make sure you are a friend of Christ and not an enemy.
  3. Run from the futility of fighting with God.
