The Church at Sardis

The church at Sardis was a church ready to die spiritually and the warning the Lord gave was to say it was alive but dead. So also the formaly and ritualistic church even of the first century. The church was dying not for a lack of people but for a lack of spirit fill believers. Every church should heed the warning of the Lord not to allow spiritual deadness to creep in because of the works of the flesh rather than of the Spirit of God. Yet there was a remnant people even among this church and they were encourage to hold fast to their faith and life in the Spirit. Note that even a spiritually dying church may repent and turn to the Lord, and its believing people can hold fast their faith in Christ.
