Right Division vs Plain Meaning
77
Many of God's people affirm that the word of God is inspired, still others will admit that it has been preserved, but Paul also tells us that it is profitable (II Tim 2:15). For us to profit from the word of God requires that the scriptures be rightly divided. This sermon endeavors to demonstrate the difference between right division, which assumes that the word of God cannot be broken (John 10:35) and that it fits together into a singular system of doctrine, and "plain meaningism" which exalts the first-blush reading of a text while turning a blind-eye to other passages that contradict that interpretation. It is intended to encourage God's people to embrace the profitability of the scriptures by spending more time in the word of God.
