The Great Covenantal Divide

Paul says that we either love Jesus and His ways or we are cursed. This is not harsh, but just. Love and faith are not very different in Paul's mind when it comes to salvation. To love Christ is to obey Him, it is to be conformed into His image. The phrase 'Come Lord Jesus' reinforces the urgency to love the Lord. It highlights the consequences for not loving the Lord and it also points to the glorious hope that exists in the hearts of those who do love the Lord. Paul doesn't merely leave us carrying the weighty burden of knowing the consequences for not loving the Lord, but points us to His grace because we forever remain utterly dependent upon His grace. Finally, Paul assures the Corinthians of his love, something he had ably demonstrated already by holding them to the unchanging truth of God's word.
