12-Long Dreamy Days

The long warm days of late Summer passed quickly into early Autumn. Of course, not all days were balmy. Some
days a hostile rain spattered the ship. At other times, a sharp, nipping wind poked its unwelcome, keen nose into every crevice. It spoke ominously of icy, wintry days to come. On other days, a dank drizzle covered the ship. The children found those days greatly to their liking. They loved to peer out of the hatches to see the wondrous effect the water droplets had upon the ship. They were infatuated by the moistened wooden spars as they glistened in the watery light and revealed their many shades of red and brown. It seemed that the colours were two shy to display their charms, except on those damp mornings. The water drops hung like sparkling diamonds on the ropes and they held much fascination for the children. The decks shone and all that was dull and bland when dry sprang into a veritable kaleidoscope of colour. The Mayflower bejewelled herself upon those damp days.
