To Live is Christ

By the phrase 'to live is Christ' Paul means the following

1. Christ is the Source of Life - both physical and spiritual life come from Him.
2. Christ is the Purpose of Life - while deliverance from sin and its penalty is foundational and primary, Christ also provided purpose, namely the glory of God.
3. Christ is the Joy of Life - and He gives us His joy which may be present in all circumstances.
4. Christ is the Strength of Life - He provides strength for all circumstances, as Paul knew.
5. Christ is the Reward of Life - a life given to Christ will be followed by eternal life in the presence of Christ.
