- PREPARATION FOR THE KING’S COMING
- OT kingship “anticipatory” of messianic “King”
- Jesus saw his kingship and kingdom as being 'not of this world' in origin or nature
- THE KING’S ARRIVAL
- “I was born...I have come...world”
- “born” and “come into the world” amount to the same!
- but Jesus existed before his birth as God the Son - so he “came into” the world from his previous existence, he came as God!
- THE KING IS REJECTED
- in OT God is King! - see Ps.95:3, 145:1, Isa.6:1ff
- also in 1Sam.8:6-9 God said “they have rejected me from being king”
- the ultimate rejection of God as king is in rejecting Jesus - v.33-19:22
- but God has the last word through Pilate in 19:19 'what I have written I have written”
