#18 Judah's Promised Land

Back in Genesis 12 God promised Abraham that his descendants would inherit the Promised Land. This promise was passed on to Abraham's son, Isaac. Then on to Jacob. And then from Jacob it was passed on to twelve sons. And now in the distribution, the promise is being made a reality. In the first 12 verses, the word boundary is used 19 times. The idea of limits and boundaries don't sit well with Americans anymore. We like our freedom. But there is an important lesson to be learned here. The idea of limits and boundaries is not about confining people, but it is about securing people. The promise of Land to Abraham and his descendants wasn't simply about keeping God's people in one place, it was about protecting them and enabling them to do the very thing God was calling them to do so that they could enjoy God.
