Victory Over Addiction

Addiction - as it affects people adversely - is that practice or activity which has control over the person given to it, and cannot be resisted in human strength alone.

There are two kinds of enslavement in the Bible - one is harmful and one enhances our lives.

The one which enhances our lives is of course that life which is surrendered to God.

But we are looking here at harmful addiction - and please note - this is a message of hope. Addictions CAN be broken. This problem CAN be solved. Not in human strength, but by the Power of God.

Rev Elliott looks at this subject of addiction under the following headings:

1. HOW IT IS EXPERIENCED

i) External factor (temptation from without)

ii) Internal factor (born with sinful nature)

iii) Volitional factor (our will). ie - when the external and internal factors come together and we give in

2. HOW IT IS EXPRESSED

i) The habits that are established

ii) The heartbreak that follows

3. HOW IT IS ENDED

This power CAN be broken - it CAN be conquered.
