Sing A New Song: How the Nations are Brought Into the Kingdom by the Gospel

277

Idea: Matthew Henry says well, “The Gentile nations shall share equally with the Jews in the NT blessings, and therefore shall join in NT praises and acts of worship.”

This new song points us to the fulfillment of promise. It points us to Jesus. The concept of a new song stretches into the NT and the very last book of the Bible, Revelation. There, God reveals Christ's victory, shown in dramatic visions. John foresees Christ's ultimate victory, pictured as the New Jerusalem where believers dwell with God in eternal glory, worshipping our God who has defeated all His enemies and fulfilled all His purposes. In the presence of this mighty God, and Christ's rule, all the inhabitants of heaven assemble to worship. The song is new in the sense that Jesus accomplishes what had been promised. In this case, He has come in agreement with His eternal covenant with the Father to bring about our salvation. And even more specifically in this passage, He has come to bring about salvation to its fullest extent, or in other words, to bring in the Gentiles as well as the Jews.

God has given Christ for you and to you. He has given you life. He has given you praise to sing, a new song of the completed work of Jesus.
