After revealing man's sinful, hopeless, helpless condition in Ephesians 2:1 – 3, the Apostle Paul describes the hope of lost men– The love and mercy of God. God's love is infinite and leads to His election of unworthy sinners and eventually to salvation. This mercy was demonstrated on the cross when Jesus took God's wrath in our place so we could be free from the just punishment of our sins. In applying Christ's redemptive work to us in regeneration, God made us alive. This is union with Christ. In that act of the New birth, God seats us in the heavenly places with Christ: i.e. we come under his Lordship and leaves the Lordship of Satan
