The Prayer of Salvation
Series Westminster Shorter Catechism
WSC #98: What is prayer? Prayer is an offering up of our desires unto God, for things agreeable to His will, in the name of Christ, with confession of our sins, and thankful acknowledgement of His mercies.
Aim: To begin and continue speaking the language of heaven.
Doctrine: God puts His word in our mouth by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and age-to-age repetition.
Exposition: Prayer is the language of new birth and old age, and begins with recognizing relationships (v. 9); submits to sovereign synchronization (v. 10); ingests the incarnation (v. 11); reflects the freedom to forgive (v. 12); and ends in deliverance from death (v. 13).
Application: Put the word of God in your mouth, by faith and with persevering confession.
Key phrase: v. 13b ''...but deliver us from the evil one.''
