Life is Lonely at the Top

245

Today I will continue our sermon series which is an expository study through the book of Ecclesiastes. We find ourselves in the second section of the book, which is where Solomon seeks to prove the assertion he made in the first section. In this chapter Solomon is addressing issues that result from human selfishness. Now he turns his attention to the vanity of human popularity, developing his argument from the perspective of leadership. This is a difficult text for a variety of reasons, but especially so because it is very hard to properly translate it in the first place. Since that has led to a variety of opinions about the meaning, I will simply work from what appears to be the predominant thrust of the text. So I will develop the thought of Solomon from the story line itself, but most importantly, I will help you think through the Christian application. There are at least two very important principles which should work their way out into the life of every Christian. Again it is my prayer is that God will be pleased to bless the His word preached as we continue our study of this fascinating book.
