The Basis & Significance of Saving Faith

112

What the original readers of the letter to the Hebrews were being challenged to do by the writer was done and had been done by their ancestors who possessed genuine faith in the promises of God and in the God of the promises and who then lived that faith. Endurance was the key to those who had gone before and for those who were being addressed as it still is for believers today. Illustrations of those who lived lives of faithfulness trusting in the promises of God are drawn from historical Hebrews figures in Israel's past. Saving faith continues to be the beginning of a life of faith specifically trusting in the promises given by God. Faith then gives substance to the certain things being hoped for and yet unseen.
