Jacob Leaves to Find His Future
Genesis 28:1-22
INTRODUCTION: Up to this point, Jacob had lived a fairly carefree life. He lived as a plain man in the tents (Genesis 25:27) and enjoyed the benefits of being his mother’s favorite (Genesis 25:28). Problems began when he purchased his brother’s birthright and tricked him out of his blessing (Genesis 27:35-36). In this lesson, Jacob began to reap the negative associated to his sowing of trickery. He had to flee the country for the sake of his life and travel 500 miles away from his home and family. Before God was through with Jacob, a “few days” awaiting his brother’s fury to subside (Genesis 27:44) would turn into twenty years. Yet, God was working behind the scenes. This resulted in Jacob taking a major step toward spiritual maturity.
