The Synod of Dort, which was truly International in its delegates and attendees, has been described both as a ‘contentious event’ but also one of the greatest ‘councils’ for the definition of important theological terms and principles. The participants deliberated for eight months, beginning in November 1618.

This year sees the 400th anniversary of the Synod dispute that clarified crucial differences concerning the gulf between Arminianism and Calvinism.

This second session examines some of the main conclusions made at the Synod, which were then defined in the Canons that the Synod adopted as a response to the Arminian Remonstrance. Thus we have the enduring legacy of this major event, convened as it was in the historic town of Dort (Dordrecht).
