Digging Spiritual Wells

68

Aim: To be planted firmly in the soil of Jesus Christ's church—growing in grace.

The significance of spiritual wells: they represent salvation waters, sanctified effort, and covenant continuity.

Exegesis: How to plan our spiritual well-digging: know that it will be met with opposition (vv. 15-16), that it will require faith in old truth (vv. 17-18), that it means fighting for the land (vv. 19-22), and that it bears fruit to heaven (vv. 23-25).

Further application: Where to dig spiritual wells: first, in our own hearts; then, in the church family; finally, in the world.

Key verse: v. 18 ''And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called them by the names which his father had called them.''
