1Sam016 David's Anointing

136

There is an very obvious contrast between the narratives of Saul's anointing and David's. While the narrative of Saul's anointing feels driven by circumstances and seems a bit unexpected, the narrative of David's anointing has obvious marks of divine providential direction. The Lord commands Samuel to stop mourning and to get up and go anoint a son of Jesse. That son of Jesse is David whose kingdom would be raised up by God as the great typological kingdom pointing to the kingdom of Christ. This message examines the divine arrangements and directions leading up to David's anointing and applies elements of David's character as a model for men to emulate and the faithful to embrace as they point to Christ.
