Any treatment of the subject of prayer will necessarily fall short in some respect. Today's ministry regarding prayer should not be construed to mean that all that can be said has been said or that all that the Bible teaches has been taught. Nevertheless, the text before us today serves as an excellent conclusion. All throughout this series, we have been constantly reminded that prayer is integral to the Christian life and worldview. The Heidelberg Catechism even refers to prayer as a requirement. (Q/A 116) And when we understand that our walk, our testimony, our obedience, our understanding, our fight, and our joy are all both affected and effected by prayer, we are in possession of the motivation to pray, the confidence that our prayers are heard, and the comfort that the one who hears will have a gracious disposition toward us.
