The Word of God

The most basic fight of the Reformation was about what the Word was, and what it taught. The reformers opposed two views, the Roman church and the "Enthusiasts". Calvin said this was not two battles but one against the Word of God. Rome replaced the Word with grace dispensed by the church. The enthusiasts replaced the Word with direct personal revelation. Both positions downgrade the Bible.
