Christian Views On Adoption

What is the Christian understanding of adoption? The WSC defines adoption as an act of God's free grace, whereby we are received into the number and have a right to all the privileges of the sons of God." Where do we find adoption in the Bible? The concept of adoption is found throughout the Old Testament but not made clear until we come to the New Testament. In the New Testament, primarily through the writings of the Apostle Paul, we are introduced to adoption as the explanation of how God saved us and how we became part of His family.
